The Monteverde reserve is privately owned and administered by the Tropical Science Center . Sharing the same cloud forest with it`s sister, Santa Elena Reserve, it is world renowned as one of the outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the new world tropics.

Due to the variety of climate and ecological zones and dramatic variations in terrain it offers a large spectrum of flora and fauna. The trails used by the public comprise only a small part the area protected by this 24,000 acre reserve. .

The Monteverde Reserve also offers guided tours and shelters at various distances away from the normal trails for night stays.
